HART — A 47-year-old Hart man was ordered to serve two concurrent prison terms for convictions of breaking and entering a building and second-degree home invasion in 27th Circuit Court Monday, Feb. 11,

Roy James Alltop, of 3745 132nd Ave., will be allowed to enter the Michigan Department of Corrections Special Alternative Incarceration (SAI) “boot camp” program.

Judge Robert D. Springstead ordered a term of 17 months to 10 years for the breaking and entering conviction and 17 months to 15 years for the home invasion conviction. Alltop received credit for three days served in jail.

Sentencing guidelines in the cases are 0-17 months and 12-24 months.

Alltop was ordered last April to serve concurrent terms of one year in jail and eight months in jail following a two-county crime spree that resulted in convictions in Oceana County of larceny in a building $1,000-$20,000 and breaking and entering a building with intent.

He was sentenced to serve nine months up front of a one-year discretionary jail term for a conviction of breaking and entering with intent in Mason County’s 51st Circuit Court in February of 2018. His sentences in the two counties ran concurrently.

Alltop’s attorney Michael Walsh said his client’s “involvement in criminal matters began at age 41,” adding that he “attributes his criminality to substance abuse issues.” Walsh said Alltop is “attempting to turn his life around through the SAI boot camp program.”
