PENTWATER – Proceeds from the Colleen Plummer Memorial Craft Beer & Music Fest next Saturday, Feb. 16, at the the Antler Bar & Grill will benefit an organization Plummer strongly supported – COVE.

For over 40 years, COVE (Communities Overcoming Violent Encounters) has been the safety net for women, men and their children who are experiencing domestic violence and sexual assault in Oceana, Mason and Lake counties.

Beginning in 2019, COVE extends sexual assault services to Manistee County. Manistee has another provider for domestic violence services. There will now be a sexual assault counselor and advocate for all four counties.

COVE has been a home to victims who are forced to leave their own home because of violence. In the last year, survivors have used the shelter for 8,631 shelter nights. COVE clients stay from one night to 90 days, with the average stay being 34 days. For the last six months, COVE has had from 35-41 people in the shelter, making it necessary to use couches and cots as sleeping options and an extra living area as sleeping quarters. Over the last year alone, COVE has provided services to 410 clients from Mason, Lake and Oceana counties.

“Proceeds from events such as the Colleen Plummer Memorial Craft Beer & Music Fest help us to continue providing services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault,” said Development and Public Relations Manager Sandy Coleman.

“Colleen Plummer was a wonderful supporter of COVE during her life,” Coleman said. “When she passed away, her family agreed to adding her name to this annual event as a memorial to honor her, not only for her support of COVE, but for her tremendous community involvement.”

“It really means a lot to my family and my mother’s many friends to honer her name with an event that she was so passionate about,” said Colleen’s daughter, Jill Plummer – who owns and operates the Antler Bar & Grill, taking over for her late mother.

The memorial is part of the Pentwater Winterfest celebration that begins this Saturday, Feb. 9, and continues next Saturday, Feb. 16.
