OCEANA COUNTY – The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for several Michigan counties, including Oceana County, beginning Tuesday, Feb. 5, at 10 p.m. through Wednesday, Feb. 6, at 1 p.m.

Mixed precipitation is expected with snow and sleet accumulation of an inch or less, primarily near and north of I-96. “Freezing rain is likely in all areas, with the heaviest occurring near and south of I-96. Total ice accumulation of up to one quarter of an inch is expected,” states NWS.

In addition to Oceana County, counties included in the advisory are Mason, Muskegon, Newaygo, Lake, Osceola, Clare, Mecosta, Isabella, Montcalm, Gratiot, Ottawa, Kent, Ionia, Clinton, Allegan, Barry, Eaton, Ingham, Van Buren, Kalamazoo, Calhoun and Jackson.

NWS issued the advisory Monday at 3:43 p.m.

“Localized power outages and tree damage are possible due to the ice. Travel may become difficult due to the icy roads and sidewalks. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday morning commute.

“A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Expect slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.”
