SHELBY – Shelby Public Schools is offering emergency food assistance to all Oceana County students this week due to the winter storm.
Breakfast will be served from 9-10 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to noon at the Shelby Middle School, said Shelby Public Schools Food Service Director Mary Rose Vanas. “It will be available the rest of this week beginning Wednesday (Jan. 30) as long as school is closed,” Vanas said.
She and Superintendent Tim Reeves came up with the idea to offer the emergency meals for the students, she said. “I fear kids are not getting fed.”
All students can eat for free, and if an adult accompanies them, the cost is $2 per adult.
Students should report to the main entrance of the middle school at 525 N. State St.
