CLAYBANKS TOWNSHIP – The Oceana County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a string of cottage break-ins that occurred in the 8200 block of South Scenic Drive in Stony Lake Wednesday morning, Jan. 23.

Central Dispatch received an alarm call from one of the cottages at 4 a.m., said Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast. When deputies responded to the scene in the heavy snow, they determined that it had been broken into and found that two other cottages had also been invaded, Mast said.

“The doors had been forced by overcoming the locks,” he said. Contact was made with the cottage owners to determine if anything had been stolen. “It is unknown if anything was taken or is missing,” the sheriff said.

If anyone has any information about the break-ins, they are asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 231-873-2121.
