Two recent car crashes involving injuries were caused by icy roads, according to accident reports from the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office.
The first crash occurred Wednesday, Jan. 2, at 5:20 a.m. when a 30-year-old Shelby woman lost control of the 2005 Saturn Vue she was driving on Harrison Road near 180th Avenue in Leavitt Township. The driver “lost control on the ice,” the accident report states. The vehicle then “exited the roadway and struck the ditch.”
The woman, who was wearing her seatbelt, was transported by Life EMS to Mercy Health Partners Lakeshore Campus in Shelby.
The second crash occurred Friday, Jan. 4, at 5:11 p.m. on West Shelby Road near 110th Avenue in Shelby Township.
A 41-year-old Shelby woman driving a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox and her passenger, a 30-year-old Shelby woman, were both transported to Mercy Health Partners Hackley Campus in Muskegon by Life EMS.
The Equinox was westbound on Shelby Road when the driver “lost control on the ice,” the report states. “The vehicle went off the road to the left and hit a tree. The vehicle had slick tires beyond the wear bars that aided in the crash.”
Both women were not wearing seat belts, the report states.
