Hart man faces prison for attacking deputy with knife.

HART – A 38-year-old Hart man who attacked an Oceana County sheriff’s deputy with a knife last summer faces serving two to 15 years in prison after pleading “no contest” to felonious assault and fourth-offense habitual offender in 27th Circuit Court Monday, Dec. 10.
Clayton John Corbett, of 2205 N. 72nd Ave., was arrested June 27 and charged with three felony counts of assault with a dangerous weapon against a police officer.
Parole agents from the state probation and parole office went to Corbett’s home last summer to do an inspection, and found him in violation of his parole, previously said Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast. A parole agent requested law enforcement at the scene. When sheriff’s deputies arrived, he said he “wouldn’t be taken alive” and pulled a knife, Mast said.
“A taser was deployed, and a scuffle ensued,” Mast said. “A deputy suffered a superficial wound from the knife.”
Corbett is on parole for a 2012 Oceana County conviction of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder. He was sentenced to four to 10 years in prison, according to the Offender Tracking Information System (OTIS).
He did a prior prison stint in 1999 for an Oceana County conviction of two counts of second-degree home invasion for which he was sentenced to three to 15 years in prison.
Sentencing is set for Feb. 4 at 9 a.m.
