$1,131 grant secures purchase of fatal vision goggles.

HART — Oceana County Family Court-Probation has received a $1,131 grant from the Community Foundation for Oceana County to support its Youth Overcoming Drugs and Alcohol and Teen Accountability Court Programs.

Laura Bomers, probation officer for Oceana County Family Court, said the funds would be used to educate juvenile offenders and their families while utilizing fatal vision goggles about the dangers of operating while under the influence of marijuana.

“We can now educate all the juveniles on probation for drug/alcohol crimes and promote a healthier lifestyle; safely showcase the true impact of how drugs inhibit the brain from reacting as it should; and expose the true dangers of operating while under the influence of mind-altering drugs and intoxicants.”

The Community Foundation for Oceana County was created in 1961 by local residents to improve the quality of life in the community. A publicly-supported community endowment, the foundation works with donors, grantees, advisers, and residents to identify and support the issues that shape our area.
