Pentwater bans deer feeding.
PENTWATER – The village has banned deer feeding, and the Pentwater Police Department will issue citations to those who continue to feed deer in the village limits.
“The Village of Pentwater and the police department have received several reports of damage to property caused by deer feeding inside the village,” states a post on the police department’s Facebook page. “In response to these reports, the village ordinance committee explored the issue of deer management inside the confines of the village limits.”
The village council received a recommendation Monday, Nov. 12, from the ordinance committee to post a notice warning residents to stop feeding deer in the village limits.
The police department will investigate reports of feeding deer and issue citations when needed.
“The village council, through the village ordinance committee and the police department, will continue to monitor deer damage and if necessary will consider further options,” states the PPD Facebook post.
Deer hunting is not allowed in the village.
After Jan. 31, 2019, the DNR is banning deer baiting and feeding in the Lower Peninsula.
