Back-to-back state champs!
BROOKLYN, MI – The Hart Girls Cross Country Team has done it once again with a state championship for the second straight year.
The Pirates demolished the competition in Division III at the Michigan International Speedway Saturday, Nov. 3. Senior Adelyn Ackley won the 3.2-mile race with a time of 17:43. Adelyn has won first place overall for three straight years.
Adelyn’s younger sister, sophomore Savannah Ackley, finished seventh at 19:15.
Freshman Audriana Enns was 10th at 19:27, followed by Adelyn and Savannah’s cousin, sophomore Lynae Ackley, in 13th place at 19:32. Sophomore MacKenzie Stitt finished 14th at 19:35, and junior Brenna Arts was 24th at 19:53.
The Pirate boys’ team took sixth place with sophomore Alex Enns taking 11th place with a time of 16:32. Senior Andrew Whitney finished 24th with a time of 16:50.
The girls outpaced second-place team Grandville Calvin Christian by 100 points. Hart’s team score was 43 to GCC’s 143. They set a state record with their team score, blasting the previous record of 55 points.
There were 238 runners in the girls’ race and 246 in the boys’ race.
The Hart Girls Track Team, which includes many of the same cross country runners, won the state championship last spring.
The cross country teams are coached by Terry and Linda Tatro.
The school is honoring the teams Monday, Nov. 5, with a parade beginning at 6 p.m. and a reception at the high school at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
