HART – A 54-year-old Rothbury man was sentenced to one year in jail and five years of probation for a conviction of second-degree criminal sexual conduct in 27th Circuit Court Monday, Oct. 29.

Larry Edgar Santos pleaded “no contest” last July in 78th District Court, said Oceana County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Chad DeRouin.

The sentence goes below the sentencing guidelines of 19-38 months. “The victim and the investigating officer were on board with the plea offer,” said DeRouin.

Santos will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, and he is ordered to have no contact with the victim, who is now 16 years old. The groping incidents occurred “sporadically throughout her childhood,” DeRouin said, beginning when the girl was approximately 10 years old.

Santos has been lodged in the Oceana County Jail on a $50,000/cash/surety bond since his arrest last summer. Judge Bradley G. Lambrix gave him credit for 136 days served in jail.
