LEAVITT TOWNSHIP – A 40-year-old Muskegon woman faces a drunk driving charge after crashing her Oldsmobile Bravada into Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast’s patrol car Monday evening, Oct. 8.
“I was going to a Greenwood Township meeting on South 192nd Avenue when a drunk driver came out of a driveway real fast, backing up,” Mast said. “There was an oncoming pickup truck coming towards me so I couldn’t get over, and she backed right into the side of my patrol car, hitting it real hard, damaging my patrol car probably beyond repair.”
The 6:55 p.m. crash occurred in a hilly area on 192nd Avenue near Scout Road, Mast said. The driver of the oncoming truck tried to get over, but there was not enough room. “There was no avoiding her,” the sheriff said.
Fortunately, no one was hurt in the crash, but the passenger side of the patrol car is severely damaged.
In addition to operating while intoxicated, the woman faces charges of operating without insurance and unlawful license plates. She was lodged in the Oceana County Jail.
