Life EMS to cover Oceana beginning Monday.
OCEANA COUNTY – Life EMS Ambulance announced it will expand its primary emergency response area into Oceana County beginning Monday, Oct. 1.
“The expansion of Life EMS Ambulance’s operations follows an Oceana County Board of Commissioners evaluation process and vote for a multi-year service agreement, including the lease of buildings, vehicles and equipment. Uniformed Life EMS Ambulance medics will begin providing emergency services on Oct. 1 using the Oceana County EMS vehicles, with a transition to Life EMS Ambulance’s iconic fleet colors over the coming months,” states a Life EMS press release.
“Many of the current Oceana County EMS medics will now serve as Life EMS Ambulance staff providing care throughout the 500-square-mile service area of Oceana County,” the press release states.
The board of commissioners voted last July to terminate its contract with the union that represents Oceana County EMS despite strong public opposition to the idea.
“As a locally-owned provider of nationally-recognized paramedic services for over 38 years now serving nine counties, we are honored to extend coverage to the Oceana County community with our highly-skilled, compassionate EMS team,” said Mark Meijer, president of Life EMS Ambulance. “We appreciate the confidence Oceana County has in us to serve its neighbors and families in need.”
In addition to Oceana County, Life EMS Ambulance responds to medical emergencies throughout 4,200 square miles of West Michigan including Grand Rapids/Kent County, Ottawa, Kalamazoo, Ionia, Newaygo, Lake, Mason, Allegan and Van Buren counties.
“We welcome Life EMS Ambulance to the community and are pleased to have their life-saving leadership experience and expertise available to our residents and visitors,” said Oceana County Board of Commissioners Chairman Denny Powers.
