BEAR LAKE (Manistee County) — The Manistee County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of the victims who were involved in Tuesday’s fatal crash in a construction zone on US 31 in the village of Bear Lake.

Andre Alvesteffer, 20, of Weare Township (Pentwater) was pronounced dead at the scene after he was struck by a 2013 Ford Taurus, driven by a 66-year-old Bear Lake woman. Damon Williamson, 23, of Ludington was seriously injured after being struck by the same vehicle. Williamson was transported by helicopter to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. Both men were working in a construction zone when the Taurus apparently crossed the centerline, left the roadway, according to Sheriff John O’Hagan.

Both Alvesteffer and Williamson were graduates of Mason County Central High School.

O’Hagan said speed is believed to be a contributing factor, however alcohol was not. But, the sheriffs office is awaiting toxicology results.

The case remains under investigation. No other information is available at this time.

Responding to the scene were Manistee County Sheriff’s Office, Little River Band of Ottawa Indians, Bear Lake Fire Department, Northflight-AeroMed EMS, the Victim Services Unit.
