HART — A 31-year-old Shelby man sentenced Monday, Sept. 17, in 27th Circuit Court to seven months in jail for a conviction of third-offense domestic violence, received a strong message from Judge Bradley G. Lambrix.

“This whole experience has humbled me, and it’s time that I grow up,” said Garth John Leslie, of 288 Ferry St., to Judge Lambrix.

“You kind of stole my thunder – I was going to tell you that you need to grow up,” Lambrix said. “You will end up in prison – which is not where you want to be – if you continue to make these kinds of choices. The bottom line here is you have to turn your life around.

“You’re 31 years old, Lambrix said. “Figure it out.”

Leslie, who received credit for 73 days served in jail, was sentenced to two years probation.

“The victim was in 100 percent agreement with the outcome,” said Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon of Leslie’s conviction and sentencing.

Leslie, was also facing another felony of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, which was dismissed, as well a fourth-offense habitual notice.
