HART – A 31-year-old Mears man was sentenced to one year in jail for convictions of two felony counts of heroin delivery – less than 50 grams in 27th Circuit Court Monday, Sept. 17.

Antonio Jesus Gonzales, of 5710 W. Third St., was initially facing five counts of heroin delivery following his arrest by the State, Sheriffs’, Chiefs’ Enforcement of Narcotics Team (SSCENT). He has been lodged in the Oceana County Jail on a $100,000 cash/surety bond.

Judge Bradley G. Lambrix said he will allow Gonzales to enter a residential substance abuse treatment facility after serving half of his jail time.

Gonzales received credit for 123 days served in jail. His sentence includes 18 months of probation.

“He admits he has a drug problem, which was the driving force for these offenses,” said his attorney Kathy Springstead.

Rehab will offer an opportunity for Gonzales to “get a new lease on life and straighten out,” said Lambrix.
