LANSING — Shelby High School graduate Kaylee (Boos) Mead has been serving as the campaign manager for Republican state attorney general candidate Tom Leonard. Over the weekend, Leonard was selected by delegates to be the GOP’s nominee for the seat in the November General Election.

Under Mead‘s leadership, Leonard, of DeWitt, defeated his opponent, Sen. Tonya Schuitmaker of Lawton. Leonard will replace Bill Schuette who is the Republican candidate for governor.

“The convention process is entirely different than the standard August open primary we all are familiar with,” said Andrew Sebolt, chairman of the Oceana County Republicans. “Being a campaign manager for such a race requires a combination of skills, talent, and perseverance. Luckily for Tom Leonard, who won the nomination for state attorney general, he chose someone born and raised in Oceana County who bore all these traits and than some.”

Nearly 2,000 delegates from each of Michigan’s 83 counties met in Lansing at the Michigan Republican State Convention to elect party nominees for top of the ticket races, including attorney general.

Mead is a 2009 graduate of Shelby High School and is married to 2010 Shelby graduate Sean Mead. She is the daughter of Shawn and Dave Merten of Walkerville, Brian Boos of  Shelby and the daughter-in-law of Mike and Teresa Mead of Shelby.

She previously worked for then-state Representative Jon Bumstead (R-Newaygo) from 2012 thru 2014 before working under Speaker of the House Tom Leonard and then as campaign manager for Leonard when he announced his candidacy for attorney general in October 2017.

Delegates from Oceana County this year included Andrew and Jennifer Sebolt of Elbridge Township, Kerry and Laura Krentz of Grant Township, Todd Fichter of Claybanks Township, Mike Cook of Golden Township and Fred Grice of Shelby Township.

“This stellar victory goes to show what a great place Oceana County is for raising and developing the talent of Michigan’s future,” Sebolt said. “Kaylee Mead was a shining example this weekend. On behalf of the Oceana County Republicans, we are proud of you and look forward to your future success.“
