WALKERVILLE — Walkerville Thrives, a non-profit community development group, invites community members to meet the August primary candidates at the “Meet the Candidates and Community Dinner” Tuesday, July 10, at 6 p.m. in the Walkerville Wesleyan Church gymnasium.
Walkerville Thrives has invited candidates for the Leavitt, Crystal and Elbridge townships to attend, as well as candidates for governor, 34th District state senator, 100th District representative in State Legislature, District #4 County Commissioner, Oceana County Road commission and Leavitt Township trustee races. Several of the candidates will have information tables with their promotional material to review.
Candidates in a contested races (governor, 34th District state senator, 100th District representative in state legislature) will be given at least five minutes to talk to the audience.
They will be responding to the following:
– Who are you and what position you are running for?
– Why are you running?
– What is your # 1 objection or goal?
For candidates who are not in contested races, the moderator will announce their attendance, so attendees will be able to see them and talk to them in person.
The Oceana County Council on Aging will also be given five minutes to present. Presenters will explain what Oceana County Council on Aging offers to the community and its upcoming expansion/building plans. OCCOA will also have an information table with information about its services.
The community dinner is served at 6 p.m. The cost is a $5 donation per person. At 6:30 p.m., the Meet the Candidates part of the night begins. The community dinner is a monthly event on the second Tuesday of the month at the Walkerville Wesleyan Church. Community members are encouraged to attend.
