HART — A 38-year-old parolee allegedly attacked an Oceana County sheriff’s deputy with a knife Wednesday afternoon, June 27, and now the suspect faces three counts of aggravated felonious assault of a police officer.

Parole agents from the state probation and parole office went to the suspect’s home on North 72nd Avenue in Hart Township to do an inspection, and found the suspect in violation of his parole, said Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast. A parole agent requested law enforcement at the scene. When sheriff’s deputies arrived, the suspect said he “wouldn’t be taken alive” and pulled knife, Mast said.

“A taser was deployed, and a scuffle ensued,” Mast said. “A deputy suffered a superficial wound from the knife.”

“Our concern was communicable diseases,” he said. The deputy has been examined by a physician and was assured there is a very slim chance of any communicable disease.

The suspect, who is lodged in the Oceana County Jail, has not yet been arraigned so his name has not been released.
