Construction on State Street in Shelby begins Monday.

SHELBY — Construction on over a half mile of State Street begins Monday, June 25, in the village, said Village Administrator Robert Widigan.

The project includes “hot mix asphalt surface removal and resurfacing, aggregate base, concrete ramp upgrades and pavement markings on State Street from south of Second Street north to Sixth Street in the Village of Shelby,” Widigan said.

“The detour plan is similar to the detour used for the last project,” he said. “Southbound traffic will be detoured west on Sixth Street, south on 72nd Avenue, and then east on First Street, and back to State Street. The northbound traffic will not be detoured, but there will be lane shifts depending on what the contractor is working on. There is some work to be competed toward the end of the project to the north of Sixth Street. During that time, a temporary traffic signal will be used to allow two-way traffic.”

The project will be completed in four continuous phases through the end of August, the village administrator said.

The total project cost is estimated at $706,000, and the village’s match is $141,072.
