HART — A 48-year-old Shelby man was sentenced to 15-25 years in prison Monday, June 11, in 27th Circuit Court for a conviction of first-degree criminal sexual conduct (CSC).

Martin Charles Shalifoe, II, of 362 Pine St., pleaded “no contest” to the charge last April.

“We spent a considerable amount of time with the victim and family,” said Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon, to work out a resolution to the case.

“This is a very serious matter,” said Judge Bradley G. Lambrix, stating that the sentencing guidelines for the minimum term are 81-135 months.

Shalifoe was arrested by the Shelby Police Department on three felony counts of CSC, two of which were dismissed when he pleaded in April.

He received credit for 175 days served in jail. He will be subject to lifetime electronic monitoring and must register as a sex offender.

The victim was a girl under the age of 12.
