Rennhack Orchards Market open for the season Thursday.
HART — Rennhack Orchards Market, located at 3731 W. Polk Road, opens for its 2018 season Thursday, June 7, and will remain open until Dec. 23.
“We are looking forward to opening on Thursday, coinciding with the National Asparagus Festival weekend,” said Joann Rennhack.
The market has kept its Honeycrisp and EverCrisp apples in cold storage over the winter and will have those popular varieties for sale.
“Most people are familiar with Honeycrisp, which is extremely juicy and crunchy, with a sweet flavor,” Joann said. “EverCrisp apples are a cross of Honeycrisp and Fuji, which is a very hard, sweet apple. EverCrisp is juicy and crunchy, and also is extremely sweet and hard.”
Of course, the market will also be selling fresh local asparagus and they are hoping to have local strawberries soon.
“We will also have wonderful locally made food products including Country Dairy moochies, cheese, and ice cream, along with Woodland pies and asparagus bread, which was a customer favorite last year. The bread is great grilled and drizzled with olive oil, or for grilled cheese sandwiches. We feature Liberty Farms Breakfast Cookies, and a variety of shelf-stable maple products, pantry items, and sauces and spreads.
“Our gift basket guru, Margie Shaw, has been putting together gift baskets for Father’s Day and other occasions, so there will be a good selection of grab and go baskets for a variety of budgets. She also has been putting up new displays to make it interesting for returning or new customers.
“We appreciate all of our friends who make it a point to shop at local small businesses. We are looking forward to a good year, and so far our outlook for our crops is excellent. The long cold spring kept the killer frosts from happening during bloom, and the heat since then has brought us up to a pretty normal ripening calendar.”
