SHELBY — Five women are vying for the asparagus queen crown during the 2018 Queen’s Pageant/Fundraiser Saturday, June 2, from 6-9 p.m. at Shelby High School.
Vicki Platt, the 2017 Asparagus Queen, and 2017 Runner Up Valerie Fedewa will crown the new queen.
This year’s candidates include: Rachel Bruinsma of New Era, Taylor Grimm of Scottville, Renza Jacobs of New Era, Kendra Larios-Mendez of Hart and Katelynn Sytsma of Hesperia.
Tickets are $12 donations, with a discounted price for children. Kids under 5 are free. Hearty appetizers, including those made with asparagus will be served. Non-asparagus appetizers will also be served.
Former State Rep. Jon Bumstead, who is running for state senator of the 34th District, will serve as the master of ceremonies.
