SHELBY — The Shelby Village Council voted 5-1 Tuesday, May 29, to offer the village administrator position to Robert Widigan of Lennon, Michigan.

Widigan works for the State of Michigan Treasury Division in the Bureau of Local Government and School Services, said Village President Paul Inglis. “He specializes in finance,” Inglis said.

Widigan was one of four candidates who was interviewed by the council last week for the position.

Other candidates include: Manistee Downtown Development Authority (DDA) Executive and Economic Development Director Tyler Leppanen; Jackson City DDA Development Director Nathan Mack; and Senior Project Manager and Certified Urban Planner for the City of Grand Rapids Courtney Magaluk, Inglis said. Assistant City Manager for the City of Grand Haven Vester Davis withdrew his application prior to the interview.

Widigan is also being interviewed by the City of Hart for the soon-to-be vacant city manager position, Inglis said. Long-time City Manager Stan Rickard will retire in August.

Inglis and Interim Village Administrator Bryon Mazade will negotiate a contract with Widigan, and his salary will be in the $60,000-$75,000 range.

The village manager position became vacant when Chelsea Stratil resigned from the position in April.

Widigan graduated from the University of Michigan in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an accounting focus, Inglis said. He is currently the village president for the Village of Lennon, which located near Flint.

Councilman Dan Zaverl cast the lone dissenting vote, and Councilman Jim Wyns was absent due to a death in the family, according to Inglis.
