SHELBY — A mobile home at 552 Fowler Street is a “total loss” following a fire in the early morning hours of Friday, May 11, according to Deputy Chief Mark Burmeister of the Shelby-Benona Fire Department. A pet dog died in the blaze.
The home, owned by Maria Thornton, was not insured, and all of the contents were destroyed, Burmeister said.
The American Red Cross and the Crystal Valley Care Fund have been contacted to assist Thornton.
The cause of the fire is unknown, but a fire investigator from the Oceana County Fire Investigation Team has been contacted. The fire was dispatched at 1:37 a.m.
Firefighters were on scene for three hours, Burmeister said. Grant Township Fire Department assisted, as well as Oceana County EMS, Michigan State Police and the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office.
