HART — A 26-year-old Hart man who faces a felony charge of assault with a dangerous weapon after allegedly wielding a knife at a Hart police officer will undergo psychiatric testing at the Michigan Center for Forensic Psychiatry in Ypsilanti.

Cadenn Douglas Lorenz, of 503 S. State St., was arrested, March 2, after the officer wrestled him to ground and took the knife away from him. The officer was not injured.

The officer turned to talk to a witness, and when he turned back around, he saw that Lorenz had a knife in his hand. The incident began on a porch of an apartment across the street from where Lorenz lives, and it ended in the lawn, said Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon.

The officer was dispatched to the scene for an unwanted person complaint. Lorenz was asking a person for a ride and wouldn’t leave, Bizon said.

Two citizens helped the officer wrestle him to the ground.

The psych testing will determine if Lorenz is competent to stand trial or requires rehabilitation.
