HART — Hart firefighters Zack Thocher and Lynn Schiller are being honored by the Great Lakes Water Safety Consortium for rescuing a capsized boater last summer in the Pentwater River.
“GLWSC is proud to announce the December 2017 Rescue Hero Awards have gone to Mr. Zack Thocher and Mr. Lynn Schiller,” stated awards committee member Ben Russell.
“In the summer of 2017, these heroes put their own lives at risk to save a boater who had capsized on the Pentwater River in Oceana County in the Hart Resevoir. Each rescuer heroically swam to the victim’s aid in unseasonably cold waters and were successful in getting the victim to safety,” Russell said.
“It is with great honor that we are able to present this award to these heroes….for there is no greater action of selfless love for our fellow man than to put one’s own life in harm’s way. Congratulations!”
