HART — A 25-year-old Hart man faces a felony charge of assault with a dangerous weapon after allegedly wielding a knife at a Hart police officer last week.

Cadenn Douglas Lorenz, of 503 S. State St., Hart, was arrested Friday afternoon, March 2, after the officer wrestled him to ground and took the knife away from him. The officer was not injured, said Hart Police Chief Juan Salazar.

Lorenz was “clearly under the influence of something,” said Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon. He held the knife in a “threatening” manner, he said.

The officer turned to talk to a witness, and when he turned back around, he saw that Lorenz had a knife in his hand. The incident began on a porch of an apartment across the street from where Lorenz lives, and it ended in the lawn.

The officer was called shortly after 2 p.m. to the 500 block of State Street for an unwanted person complaint. Lorenz was asking a person for a ride and wouldn’t leave, Bizon said.

Two citizens helped the officer wrestle him to the ground.

A preliminary conference in 78th District Court is set for March 19 at 3 p.m.

Lorenz is lodged in the Oceana County Jail on a $25,0000 cash bond.
