AMBER TOWNSHIP (Mason County) — The West Shore Educational Service District Board of Education selected four candidates to be considered for the position of superintendent during a meeting Thursday, Feb. 22. The board had received 18 applications for the position and reviewed each of those applicants in closed session, per the request each candidate, and allowed under the Michigan Open Meetings Act.

The finalist will replace Randy Howes, who is retiring. They include Mark Klumpp, assistant superintendent of the Mecosta-Osceola Intermediate School District; David Cox, director of career and technical education at Wexford Missaukee Intermediate School District; Dr. Jason Jeffrey, assistant superintendent for instruction and CTE at Traverse Bay Area ISD; and Michael Behrmann, executive director of elementary education at Rochester Community Schools.

The four will be interviewed next week during open session, the public is allowed to attend. The schedule is as follows:

  • Wednesday, Feb. 28, 3 p.m.: Klumpp
  • Wednesday, Feb. 28, 4:45 p.m.: Cox
  • Thursday, March 1, 3 p.m.: Jeffrey
