HESPERIA — The Hesperia Community Library received a generous donation from the Shelby Optimist Club in support of the library’s programs for children in the area.

The club awarded the library $1,000 to help support the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program and the Summer Reading program.

The Dolly Parton Imagination Library program is a book gifting program that mails free, high-quality books to children from birth until they begin school, regardless of their family’s income. This program is open to children in the Hesperia Community Library district.

The Summer Reading theme this year is “Libraries Rock,” and the library plans to have some great programs for kids and families. The Summer Reading programs begin June 19 and are open to all.

The library offers a Family Night program on Tuesdays; Teen Night on Wednesdays; and Story Time on Friday mornings.

“The library appreciates the generous support of the optimists,” said Library Director Kay Brennan.
