PENTWATER TOWNSHIP — A 66-year-old Manistee man was “seriously” injured in a single-vehicle crash on southbound US 31 near Hammett Road Thursday, Dec. 14, shortly after 8:30 a.m., according to Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.

Thomas Louis Hubbard “was in the left lane traveling southbound on US 31,” states an accident report from the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office. “Hubbard stated he took his seatbelt off to reach for a cell phone. Hubbard lost control of his vehicle due to the snow/ice covered (road). Hubbard’s vehicle crossed the centerline, went off the road and rolled over several times.”

Hubbard was transported by Oceana County EMS to Mercy Health Hackley Campus in Muskegon.

He was driving a red 1998 GMC Sierra pickup truck.

There was another crash on US 31 Wednesday, Dec. 13, at 3:15 p.m., according to Michigan State Police Sgt. Charles Hockanson. Minor injuries were reported in the two-vehicle crash, which occurred near Wayne Road in Weare Township.
