SUMMIT TOWNSHIP (Mason County) — Two people were injured following a single vehicle rollover crash on southbound US 31 just north of the Oceana Drive (Pentwater) exit Friday morning. The crash, which occurred about 11 a.m., involved a Dodge Caliber sedan driven by a 38-year-old Indiana man and a 47-year-old female passenger, also from Indiana. Both were transported by ambulance to Mercy Health Hackley Hospital in Muskegon.

There were no witnesses to the crash, according to Mason County Sheriff Sgt. Shayne Eskew. The vehicle appeared to be traveling south on US 31 and left the passing lane of the roadway. Skid marks show that the vehicle then crossed back onto the highway and crossed over both lanes and rollover multiple times, landing on all four wheels in the ditch.

Initially, 911 callers placed the crash on the south side of the Mason-Oceana counties line and Oceana County Sheriff’s Office, along with Pentwater Fire Department and Oceana EMS were called to the scene; because of the corrected location, Mason County Sheriff’s Office personnel were also dispatched and conducted the investigation. Pere Marquette Township Fire Department was also dispatched but did not respond, due to the patients being tended by emergency personnel from Pentwater and Oceana EMS.

Crash investigators from MCSO have been called to investigate the crash.
