COVE observes Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

October 3, 2017

COVE observes Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

In observation of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, COVE (Communities Overcoming Violent Encounters) has a variety of dates set aside to help create community awareness for domestic violence in Mason, Oceana and Lake counties.

An “Awareness Breakfast” will be hosted in each of the three counties.  Anyone is invited to attend to learn more about how to help spread awareness and prevent domestic violence.  Light refreshments will be served at each location.

  • First Responder Recognition will take place throughout October in each county.  The quick response by these dedicated men and women is critical to the safety and survival of victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.  One individual is chosen each year to receive the “You Make A Difference” award.  This year’s award will be presented at the October 11 Awareness Breakfast in Ludington at the COVE office.
  • 2017 Events for Domestic Violence Awareness also include the Pentwater Home Tour and Used Book Sale on Saturday, October 14.  This fundraiser helps to support the services provided by COVE year-round.  The annual Walk for Awareness this year will be co-hosted by West Shore Community College and will take place on campus on Tuesday, October 24.
  • Community Involvement may include wearing purple clothing or a purple ribbon, decorating homes or businesses with purple ribbons, and most of all, being alert to signs of domestic violence in the lives of our families and friends.  Individuals, businesses, medical facilities, churches, schools, daycares or any organization that can help share the awareness and prevent domestic violence are encouraged to participate in some way.

The list of events are also posted on the COVE website: www.callcove.com and on its Facebook page.  A Crisis Line is available 24/7/365 for men or women facing domestic violence or sexual assault: 800-950-5808.
