Police: careless driving causes car vs. power pole crash.

NEW ERA — A 26-year-old Hesperia man was cited for careless driving after the 1995 Chevrolet Lumina he was driving Monday, Sept. 25, shortly before 4 a.m. crashed into a power pole on West Ray Avenue near First Street.
The man reached down to look for his phone, and when he looked back up, his car went off the roadway; hit a power pole; and rolled over several times, according to an Oceana County Sheriff’s Office accident report.
“Driver advised he was traveling south on First Street when he reached down to look at his phone,” the report states. “Driver advised when he looked back up, his vehicle had run off the left side of the road. Driver advised after hitting a power pole and his vehicle rolled over several times. Driver estimated his speed at about 50 mph,” the report narrative states.
The man did not suffer any injuries. He was wearing a seat belt, and the airbag deployed. Alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash, the report stated.
