HESPERIA — The Hesperia Fire Department recently honored Eric Wright as its Firefighter of the Year.
Wright, who is a leader in attendance at meetings and emergency calls on the 15-member department, has been a Hesperia firefighter for four years, said Fire Chief Bob Eichenberg.
“He’s done a lot for us over the last year,” the chief said. Wright has worked to obtain grants for the department, recently securing a grant from Ice Mountain for a pallet of bottled water. The bottled water will keep the firefighters hydrated while battling fires.
The department just started awarding Firefighter of the Year awards this year, Eichenberg said. He wants to recognize his firefighters annually for their hard work and dedication. “We plan to do it every year.”
There should be plenty of candidates to choose from each year. “We have a great core group of guys,” Eichenberg said.
