WALKERVILLE — A 22-year-old Walhalla woman was lodged in the Oceana County Jail on two counts of child endangerment and one count of operating under the influence of drugs Sunday, Sept. 17, after the 2000 Saturn she was driving crashed through the storefront of a downtown building, causing $4,000-$5,000 in damages.

Zada Ann Holey, of 6590 East US 10, “was passed out from heroin use,” states an Oceana County Sheriff’s Office accident report.

Holey was transported to Mercy Health Lakeshore Campus in Shelby following the 9:55 a.m. crash for minor injuries. Her blood was drawn and then she was lodged in jail, said Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.

Her two young boys, ages 3 and 5, were in the car at the time of the crash, but they were not injured, Mast said.

with the children,” Mast said. They kept the boys occupied by taking them to the park across the street to play until their grandparents came to pick them up, he said.

The building that Holey allegedly crashed into is Extreme Services, said owner Robert Zack, who estimated that damages total $4,000-$5,000. The building, which is a former grocery store, houses a tree removal business. It also serves as an office for residential rental housing and fiberoptic line crews, Zack said.

The Saturn crashed through the storefront windows and into the brick wall.

“I’m just thankful the little kids didn’t get hurt,” Zack said.

“There was evidence of narcotic paraphernalia present in the car,” Mast said.

No one was inside the building at the time of the crash, Zack said.

After Holey passed out, her car went off the street; up onto the sidewalk; and then crashed into the building, the report states. She was westbound on Main Street near East Street.
