GREENWOOD TOWNSHIP — A young black bear believed to be male died Saturday afternoon, Sept. 2, after running out into traffic on Maple Island Road south of Garfield Road, near Hesperia.
The bear struck a 2001 Ford F350 pickup truck driven by James Hill Harris, 51, of Muskegon, according to an Oceana County Sheriff’s Office accident report.
Harris was northbound shortly after 4:30 p.m. when the bear ran out onto the roadway, the report states. Neither Harris nor his passenger, a 26-year-old Muskegon man, were injured in the crash. However, the pickup truck was damaged.
