GRANT TOWNSHIP — Gilberto Lopez, 40, of Grant Township was arrested on an eight-count felony warrant Thursday, Aug, 17, by detectives from SSCENT (State, Sheriffs’, Chiefs’ Enforcement of Narcotics Team), charging him with six counts cocaine delivery; one count of possession with intent to deliver cocaine; and one count of felony firearm.

“After reviewing the facts of the case, the Oceana County Prosecutor’s office authorized six counts of delivery of cocaine, one count of possession with intent to deliver cocaine, and one count of felony firearm,” stated Det./Lt. Andrew Ambrose. “The most serious charges are felonies punishable by up to 20 years in prison.”

Lopez is currently lodged in the Oceana County Jail on a $25,000 cash bond.

“Lopez was the subject of an investigation that started in early 2016,” Ambrose said. “During the investigation, several undercover purchases of cocaine were made from Lopez. In the fall of 2016, a search warrant was executed in the 2900 block of Arthur Road that led to the seizure of an amount of cocaine and US currency.”

Detectives from SSCENT were assisted with their investigation over the past year and a half by the Michigan State Police, Oceana County Sheriff’s Office, Mason/Oceana Special emergency Response Team (SERT), Michigan State Police Bomb Squad, West Michigan Enforcement Team (WEMET) – Muskegon, Homeland Security Investigations and the Michigan State Police canine unit.

SSCENT is a multi-jurisdictional task force that serves Manistee, Mason, Oceana, and Lake counties. SSCENT asks that if you have information about drug activity in your area, to call 231-843-7045 or contact your local police department.
