GOLDEN TOWNSHIP — Three separate crashes within an hour injured several people at the Silver Lake Sand Dunes Saturday evening, Aug. 12, according to Oceana County Sheriff’s Office accident reports.
An 8-year-old girl was injured in one of the crashes, and another crash was a hit-and-run accident.
CRASH #1: The first crash occurred at 7:10 p.m., injuring a 17-year-old Blissfield, Michigan man who was riding a 2004 Suzuki LTR 450 dirt bike.
He was “eastbound in the area west of the south flats,” states the report. “The driver did not see a large hole made by vehicles doing donuts in the sand.” The dirt bike then fell into the hole, causing the rider to be thrown from it. “This caused a large laceration on the left knee from an impact with the handle bars.”
The man was transported by ambulance to an area hospital.
CRASH #2: The second crash occurred at 7:45 p.m., injuring a 24-year-old Parma Heights, Ohio man who was riding a 2015 RMZ 250 Suzuki dirt bike.
He “was northbound in the south flats. A second vehicle, a four-wheeler was traveling the same direction and made a left turn in front of (the dirt bike) without looking. The rider of (the dirt bike) was not able to stop in time and ran into the second vehicle. The (dirt bike) rider was then thrown from his vehicle and sustained a possible shoulder injury.”
The four-wheeler driver stopped but did not identify himself and then left the scene, the report states.
The dirt bike rider was transported by ambulance to an area hospital.
CRASH #3: The third crash occurred at 7:55 p.m., injuring an 8-year-old Milford, Michigan girl and a 34-year-old Milford man who were riding as passengers on a 2016 Polaris RZR, according to the report.
The RZR, operated by a 33-year-old Milford woman, was traveling east in an area north of the north flats area of the dunes, the report states.
A 2008 Colorado Sand Long Travel was northbound in the same area. The RZR “came over a hill into a bowl-type area at the bottom” when the other vehicle “came over another hill that leads into the same area. Neither vehicle was able to see the other one come over the hills,” the report states.
The RZR was able to stop, but the other vehicle was not able to and could not avoid the collision, the report states. It was driven by a 32-year-old Muskegon man, and his passenger was a 27-year-old White Lake, Michigan man. Neither of them were injured, and they both were wearing their seat belts.
The injured girl and man were transported by ambulance to an hospital.
