SHELBY — A school bus will flip over, and another school bus will burn during a bus driver safety day at Shelby High School Friday, Aug. 18.

“There will be several school districts there with about 360 bus drivers,” said Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.

The training runs from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. with the highlight events of the extrication demonstration from 5:30-6:30 p.m., and the bus burning demo from 6:30-7 p.m.

Bus drivers will receive training in ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) to handle active shooter situations. Other important topics, such as properly securing wheelchairs, will also be addressed.
