HART — Local citizens and firefighters from the Hart Area Fire Department rescued a 74-year-old Hart man who fell into Hart Lake Sunday night, July 16.
“We got a call of an overturned boat with someone hanging onto it,” said Hart and Shelby-Benona Fire Chief Jack White. Emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene at 9:15 p.m.
Citizens assisted in the water rescue by using their power boats, White said. Also, two firefighters used kayaks to rescue the man. One firefighter, wearing life vest, swam across the lake to assist, the chief said.
“They were able to get him into a boat,” White said. The man was treated and released by Oceana County EMS after being brought to shore near Mechanic Street.
The person rescued was a 74-year-old Hart man, said MSP Sgt. Adam Clement.
