ROTHBURY — A 20-year-old Plainfield, Illinois man faces two felonies after he allegedly attempted to steal a Rothbury Police Department patrol car and broke the officer’s nose, July 1, at the Electric Forest Festival.
Anthony J. Wachs, of 13164 Sunderlin Rd., was arraigned in 78th District Court on felonies of assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer and attempted unlawful driving away of an automobile (car theft).
According to Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon, Wachs “tried several times to enter the driver’s side seat” and “was told to stay away from the vehicle. The last time the officer warned him, he struck the officer, causing a broken nose.”
Wachs is scheduled for a preliminary conference July 18 at 3 p.m. His bail was set at $10,000/cash/surety/10 percent.
Electric Forest wrapped up its second weekend Sunday night, July 2, at the Double JJ Resort.
