GOLDEN TOWNSHIP — A 19-year-old man was seriously injured Saturday, May 27, shortly before noon after falling out of the back of a pickup truck, and hitting his head on the pavement in the Silver Lake State Park parking lot, according to Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.
Zane Charles Wilcox, 19, of Davison, Michigan was airlifted by Aero Med to Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids, Mast said.
Riley Jon Koning was driving a 2001 Chevy Silverado, which had a quad in the back. Wilcox was sitting on the quad, according to the accident report.
“Koning was traveling west on the entrance road inside the Silver Lake State Park ORV Area,” the report states. “As Koning was going around a 90-degree corner, a quad on the back of his truck rolled off and fell onto the pavement. Zane Wilcox was sitting on the quad when it rolled off the back of the truck. Wilcox fell off the truck with the quad and struck the pavement with his head.”
The accident was the third of three separate crashes that occurred within a half hour at the dunes Saturday shortly before noon, according to dispatch information.
