GRAND RAPIDS — Augustin Baca Garcia, 32, who was run over by an asparagus cart Sunday morning May 14, has been discharged from Spectrum Health, according to hospital media personnel.
Garcia was airlifted by Aero Med from Mercy Health Lakeshore Campus in Shelby after being transported to Shelby via ambulance.
The tire of an asparagus cart ran over his chest when he was picking asparagus in a field at 6163 East Tyler Road in Leavitt Township near Walkerville, according to the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office report.
The report stated that Garcia was standing in front of the asparagus picker when he lifted a box of asparagus, and the box hit a lever that put the machinery in gear causing it to move forward and run over Garcia.
Garcia was conscious and breathing when the sheriff’s deputy arrived at the scene, the report states, and he was taken to Spectrum for further evaluation.
