Hart Police Officer Cavner recognized for actions during apartment fire.

HART — Hart Police Officer Aaron Cavner was recently presented with the American Police Hall of Fame General Commendation Award during a recent Hart City Council meeting. The commendation was for his outstanding actions during the performance of his duties during an apartment fire in December 2016.
On Thursday, December 15, 2016, Cavner was dispatched to a fire at Parkview Manor apartment complex, 710 East Main Street. Cavner was further advised multiple residents of the home were still inside the apartment complex unable to leave. He entered the apartment complex in hopes of attempting to remove residents who were still stuck within their apartment and was able to successfully assist residents from their apartment via first story and second story windows.
Officer Cavner successfully was able to remove all remaining residents from the apartment complex, with all residents being accounted for.
“Officer Cavner showed extraordinary heroism on this day and should be commended for an outstanding act of his performance,” Hart Police Chief Juan Salazar said in a press release. “Officer Cavner saved multiple residents from this apartment complex, from what could have been a tragic outcome.
Hart Police Department and Hart Fire Department were assisted that day by Shelby Police Department, Pentwater Police Department, Michigan State Police Hart Post, the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office, the Oceana County Fire Investigation Team, Shelby-Benona Fire Department, Ferry Fire Department, Pentwater Fire Department, Pere Marquette Township Fire Department, Oceana County Emergency Manager, Oceana County EMS and Life EMS.
