PENTWATER TOWNSHIP (Oceana County) — The Oceana County Sheriff’s Office has recovered what it believes are the remains of Ryan Walsworth, a Mears resident who has been missing since Feb. 13. Sheriff Craig Mast said that sheriff’s deputies were dispatched at 11 a.m. Saturday morning to the Lake Michigan shoreline in section 22 of Pentwater Township, just south of the Pentwater pier for the report of a possible body.

Workers at a nearby construction site had seen what they thought was a body on the beach,” Mast said.

“Deputies did find the body of a white male laying just on the shore and partially covered in sand.  After further investigation,  we are very confident that is this the remains of Mr. Ryan Walsworth, whom had went missing back on February 13th of this year.”

Mast said the location is approximately three miles south of where Walsworth’s truck was located on February 14 in Mason County’s Summit Township, just north of the Oceana County line. “An extensive search on both land and water was performed at that time but we were not able to locate Mr. Walsworth until today.”

The body was being taken to Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids for an autopsy and positive identification. “But we are very confident that this is Mr. Walsworth,” Mast said. “We ask that the public keep the family in their thoughts and prayers.”
