COLFAX TOWNSHIP — Four fire departments fought a fire that destroyed a residence at 6900 N. 168th Ave. Wednesday night in near whiteout conditions. Walkerville and Crystal Township fire departments were dispatched at 6:44 p.m. Assistance was also given by Hart and Pentwater fire departments.

“When we arrived on the scene the house was fully engulfed and the roof had already caved in,” according to Walkerville Area Joint Fire and Rescue Authority Administrator Jerry Frick, who added that dispatch information stated that the fire started in the house’s attic and that a utility pole as on fire. However, firefighters have not determined the origin of the fire.

The house’s two residents were able to get out of the house safely. According to a sign near the house, the property is owned by Bob and Pat Flanery.

Oceana County EMS also responded to the scene.

Fire departments cleared the scene around 10 p.m.
