HART — A 29-year-old White Cloud man was sentenced this week in 27th Circuit Court for a high-court misdemeanor of failing to comply with sex offender registration duties and a misdemeanor of squatting.
Albert Davis, whose address in court files is listed as 285 Lakeview Dr., was ordered to serve eight months up front of a one-year discretionary jail term by Judge Anthony A. Monton. He received credit for 90 days already served in jail. For the squatting offense, Davis was sentenced to six months in jail. Monton also ordered one year probation.
Davis is one of three suspects who were arrested by Oceana County sheriff’s deputies last November for squatting in a rental home in Greenwood Township for months, according to Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast. Drugs and drug paraphernalia were located inside the home in the 9200 block of South 192nd Avenue, Mast said.
According to 78th District Court files, Davis also faces a felony of heroin possession following his arrest by the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office last month. Co-defendants are Nicole Pike, 29, of Muskegon, Ronald Dagen, 37, of Holton.
The homeowner contacted police in an effort to have them removed from the home, the sheriff said. “They were not welcome and were living there for months. They had not been paying rent; had been advised to get out; and they would not leave.
“Deputies went to the scene and found that the homeowner had removed the main door and removed a sliding glass door in an effort to get these people out of his home. The people used blankets to cover the doorways. Deputies found three people inside, also drug paraphernalia from several different narcotics – marijuana and possibly heroin.”
Davis was charged with the sex offender registration violation for failing to update his address.
