HART — A 64-year-old Montague man received a five to 25 year prison sentence in 27th Circuit Court Monday, Jan. 30, for a first-degree criminal sexual conduct (CSC) conviction.

Michael Melvin Johnson, of 500 Fruitvale Rd., pleaded “no contest” to the charge last month.

Judge Anthony A. Monton gave Johnson credit for 237 days served in jail. He has been lodged in the Oceana County Jail on a $150,000 cash/surety bond, awaiting sentencing.

The maximum penalty for first-degree CSC is life in prison.

“I’m sorry all this happened,” said Johnson, who will be subject to lifetime electronic monitoring.

Johnson molested a female child under the age of 13 in 2008 in Grant Township, according to Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon.

Johnson initially faced three felony counts of first-degree CSC and one count of third-offense habitual offender. The other charges were dismissed in a plea deal that set his minimum prison time at five years. Monton set Johnson’s maximum sentence at 25 years.

Both the victim and her mother agreed to the plea deal, Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon said.
