HART — A 31-year-old Hart man faces up to 15 years in prison for the alleged drunk driving death of a 24-year-old Hart man in September of 2015.

Michael Keith Bishop, of 5608 N. 136th Ave., was arrested Jan. 2, 2017 by the Michigan State Police for a felony of operating under the influence of liquor causing death.

Bishop was driving a pickup truck on Filmore Road near 136th Avenue, Sept. 6, 2015, at approximately 8 p.m. when a motorcycle ridden by Jesus Deleon-Rodriguez “swerved and lost control,” said Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon. Deleon-Rodriguez, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene, Bizon said.

It is alleged that Bishop had a blood alcohol content of .08 or higher causing Deleon-Rodriguez’s death, according to his court file.

Information that specificies what Bishop is alleged to have done that caused the motorcyclist to swerve was not available.

The maximum penalty is 15 years in prison and/or a fine of $2,500-$10,000.

A preliminary conference in 78th District Court is set for Jan. 30 at 3 p.m.

Bishop is free after posting 10 percent of a $50,000 bond.
